The Highs and Lows

Probably for most of us we feel pretty excited about starting a new adventure, a new job, moving to a new area, or even building something new.

If you’ve been reading my blog, you know we have had our highs and lows as we've been building our home. This will be our second season and we have a lot still to do. We had planned to go to the property this weekend, where the exoskeleton of our home sits, for a day trip but the weather is slowing us down again. Our semi-permanent home is in an area that gets very little snow or nothing at all. That means we might get a dusting or a handful of inches the entire year. Temps have been generally lower than normal this winter but it’s late in the season for us to get snow at all. Yet, just a week ago about eleven inches fell. Urgh!

Normally, I would be excited because we don’t get much snow but I didn’t even get to enjoy the day because we were preparing to fly out the next morning and I had some online meetings to hold. The snow was mostly gone by the time we got back from our four-day vacation to see our daughter and grandkids, but the snow/rain mix conitued throughout this last week.

Okay, do you remember our current home is a trailer… on a farm? Jer had to push the snow off our pullouts. Our friend, who stayed here to watch our dog, had to deal with frozen water lines… not ours. Somewhere between the well house and to where we are plugged in the hoses there isn’t enough protection to keep them from freezing. Urgh!

Do you remember the property we’ve built on is at about the 2200 foot level? The snow fell in that area too, more than a foot and continued off and on all this week. Looks like next week will be a repeat. While we are focusing on the inside of the house, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to struggle up the hill to only work for a few hours. We want to get our smaller trailer back up there so we can stay all weekend and make real progress. Unless we get a quick warm up, it’s going to be a while. Urgh!

I was actually feeling excited about getting started again, even though Jer and I were both down with colds last month. Our grandkids were finishing colds while we visited them. Now Jer and I are on our second round of colds. Nothing like a family that shares. Urgh!

Well, at least the weather and our colds happened at the same time. That way we can combine our weekends of NOT making progress on this crazy thing we are doing.

Spring, please come soon.
