Our Depot Friends

Jer became good friends with the Pro Desk managers at Home Depot. He was in almost every morning around 6 am when we were in town and many afternoons picking up orders. These nice and knowledgeable people made Jer only want to go when the two he knew well were there.

We’ve been good Home Depot customers too. Most of our home was built using their supplies. Now it was time to work on flooring and counter tops. Jer did a beautiful job laying the ceramic tiles for the entry and bathrooms. Snap flooring was planned for the main area but there was no way we were going to lay our own carpet. That had been tried before and it’s more difficult to get right than you think.

Before that we made the decision to have the pros do our granite kitchen counter tops. What an amazing and precise process. In our former kitchen, Jer and I had put in smaller granite slabs. While it looked fine, the cutting of the granite was difficult, and we had more grout than having professionals do full slabs.

After months and years of everything taking forever to get done, I can’t tell you the thrill of seeing a task completed in one day. What a change in how our kitchen looked!

Back to the carpet. We were shocked the carpet and labor cost more than the granite kitchen counters. They sent us a list of everything that needed to be done before they came, even down the temperature of the room. That wasn’t going to happen with a wood stove and when we are only here on weekends. I’m sure they were sweating while they worked though, since Jer made sure the house was very warm before they arrived.

They also needed all the floorboards around the perimeter of all the rooms completed. One small problem, we had a bedroom dedicated to tools, lots and lots of tools. That meant I needed to move EVERYTHING out of that room while Jer scrambled to get the floorboards in.

By the skin of our teeth, we were ready before they came. Again, what a change one day with a crew of men made in how the house looks. The house was finally starting to look like a home! Our excitement was mounting.
