Dishwasher Dilemma

I can hardly believe it, but Jer and I moved all our appliances onto a small trailer by ourselves!

After arriving at our property, we had to figure out how to move them onto our plywood deck maneuvering over uneven ground. A couple of appliances were light enough for us to carry but others were put on a hand-truck for Jer to pull up a couple feet to the deck. The frig was even harder. It wasn’t easy to move them into the house. It’s probably why we let them sit on the deck for a few weeks.

I admit I was kind of excited to get our dishwasher set up. We had been handwashing our dishes for a few years now in a very small split sink. The swishing sounds of water and detergent cleaning our dishes made my heart happy. The machine ran great.

Until the next day when an alarm went off. Shutting the breaker off was the only way we could get it to stop. Somehow water leaked into the dishwasher lifting a float that set off the alarm. We dried it out and it seemed fine. We even ran another load a week later.

Later that same weekend the alarm sounded again. Stumped to what was causing this, we turned the breaker off again. Jer fixed a valve and thought it was fixed but again the alarm sounded after a couple days. We turned the breaker off indefinitely, not sure what to do.

Jer and I did double duty with our grandkids a couple weekends later. He went to one state for a graduation; I went to another for a birthday but stopped at the house to do a little work first. I walked in to find a pond of water under our cabinets and across our dining floor sitting on our subfloor. Grabbing towels, I immediately soaked up what I could and turned on an industrial fan to dry it out. Thank God, it didn’t ruin our floor.

We reached out to our new community to see if anyone knew what to do. Their response was, “That brand seems to always have issue. The solution is to just buy another dishwasher.” So, we did and it worked great.

But what do you do with a brand-new dishwasher with issues? It sat out in the sun and rain for a few months. Finally, when we were out of time, we offered it to anyone for free. The new owner picked it up that same day. Yay!

He messaged us a couple weeks later and shared that he replaced another valve we missed, and it was working perfectly. While I’m not thrilled about the extra money spent, I am pleased everyone was happy in the end.
