I admit, I continue slacking at getting updates out on our house project. We’ve been busy beavers and resting whenever we get a minute here and there.
The big news: WE HAVE POWER! Finally, after months of work and struggling to get the wiring right, we finally tasted victory. I have to give props where they are due. Dee and her husband came and spent five hours helping us. They have their own building project going about four hours away from us. Dee is a retired electrical engineer and had already built her solar panel rack.
Jer may have been sweating because it was a hot day, but he would admit there were tears mixed in. What a joy it’s been to be able to run things from the house. We haven’t had to use the generator (except to charge our trailer battery) for a month now. Woo Hoo!!!
The only bummer is the state wouldn’t extend our permit, meaning we had to pay more for an extension. Boo. Still, we are happy to have the solar panel working.
On to all the other bits and pieces. The county has given us a few more months to finish what’s needed for occupancy. A running toilet, kitchen sink, set the wood stove, pass our final electrical inspection, and build our banister. Doesn’t sound too hard, right?
One thing leads to another. We hung our kitchen cabinets, check. Found out the doors and coverings are twice as expensive as we had thought. Put on hold, double not checked.
Why set the toilet twice? So, we laid tile in both bathrooms, the entry, and laundry area. Unless we put the bathtub in, we’d still have to reset the toilet, and before we did that, I had decorative tile to put on the walls. It took me around twenty hours (mulitple weekends) but it’s done. The bath is in but without the faucet…we need extensions, The toilet is in, but we need a shorter waterline, and the vanity is in, but we need a different size of drainpipe.
Still, progress is progress. So many other things I have to share but will leave you with this. Just keep going. You’ll eventually arrive at your destination.
